On the Pastel Route, whose culture once contributed to its prosperity, Villefranche-de-Lauragais is bordered by departmental road 813, the Deux-Mers highway and the Canal du Midi (UNESCO site) giving it a pivotal position at the gates of Toulouse, the Mediterranean, the Pyrenees, Sidobre and the Montagne Noire.
A privileged geographical location opening up beautiful perspectives of discovery of this Pays Lauragais which is revealed between gentle hills and fields of shimmering colors. Pays de Cocagne, the golden age of pastel in the 16th century therefore strongly contributed to the development of the region, this beautiful long-neglected plant blue is today being brought back into the spotlight thanks to passion and know-how local artisans through cosmetics, clothing and other productions.
Rich in a remarkable heritage, Lauragais is revealed through its castles (Montgeard, Vaudreuille...), exceptional bastides (Nailloux, Castelnaudary...), mills, perched Cathar villages and its unmissable medieval city, the fortress of Carcassonne (only 60 km from our hotel). Barely 30 minutes away, Toulouse, the pink city with its city of space and the bastide Revel, a mecca for cabinetmaking and marquetry recognized by the “Ville et Métiers d’art” label.
You can appreciate the bucolic landscapes of Lauragais along the Canal du Midi, on foot, by bike or by boat. A unique experience to live along the water, the opportunity to discover the Malpas tunnel, the locks of Renneville, Négra, Fonséranes, Bassin Rond or even the Béziers aqueduct...
